Joy of joys!
Not only have you found your new home, but you've managed to sell your old home ... result!!
But the prospective new owners want to move in next week :-o
Eek! Don't panic. It can be done with a little bit of concentrated organisation ...
Day 1: Morning
Find transportation and contact Utility Companies
The most important part of any move is working out how to get your stuff from your old place to the new one.
Quite often the decision comes down to money and time (doesn't everything!). So if you're short on time, but not money, consider using a removals firm. If you're short on both, then a DIY move (with lots of friends/family helping!) can save on the cash.
Booking a mover usually requires notice of more than a week, but if you're moving during the off-season (any time that's not Summer!) you should be able to find a mover that can help.
You could also hire a van to do the move yourself, although they're also fairly booked up in the Summer months.
Call Utility Companies
If you're responsible for paying utility bills - gas, electricity, broadband/phone, rubbish etc - then you'll have to get your current service cancelled and/or transferred to your new place. Make sure to tell them the exact day that you'll be moving to your new house ... you don't want to arrive at the new place with no electricity!
Get a list of your bills and go through them one by one. This job shouldn't take more than an hour or so, but it's important to get it done as soon as possible so you're not charged for services you're not using.
Day 1: Afternoon
Get Packing Supplies
Hopefully this morning you organised HOW to move your stuff to your new place. Now you can concentrate on what you'll need to pack everything up.
Boxes are the key to this! Happily, if you need boxes in a hurry you can place your order on www.boxdepot.ie and arrange to collect them from our warehouse in West Dublin. Just give us a ring beforehand, so that we can have your order ready for you.
Just remember it is is better to have too many boxes than too few!
Other packing options could include bin bags. While not ideal (and removal companies HATE them!) they're a handy option for packing clothes, bedlinen, towels etc.
Whew! That's a good bit of work you got done today! Now to prepare for rolling up your sleeves and getting packing on Day 2
